I am Jenita and I live in North Ambrym, Vanuatu. I am one of 40 teachers, that will use the new literacy book in the local Rral language. It is a huge benefit that the kids can start to read in their own language. So far, we had only access to materials in English. I had to explain everything because they could not understand it. Gaining reading skills in Rral will help them later reading in English and allow them to learn what they need for their future. I can also read to them Bible stories in their own language and they are happy that they understand everything.

Je m’appelle Jenita et je vis à North Ambrym, Vanuatu. Je suis une des 40 enseignantes qui utiliseront le nouveau livre d’alphabétisation dans la langue locale, le Rral. C’est un énorme avantage que les enfants puissent maintenant apprendre à lire dans leur propre langue. Jusqu’à présent, nous n’avions accès qu’à du matériel en anglais. J’ai dû tout leur expliquer en Rral parce que les enfants ne comprenaient rien. L’acquisition de compétences en lecture en Rral les aidera plus tard à lire en anglais et à apprendre ce dont ils ont besoin pour leur avenir. Je peux aussi leur lire des histoires bibliques dans leur propre langue et les enfants sont heureux de tout comprendre.
